- Change your name with the Social Security Administration (SSA) first.
- Complete a DL/ID application using our online application.
- Visit a DMV office (make an Appointment(s) for faster service).
- Give a thumb print.
- Have your picture taken.
- Pay the driver license or identification card application fee.
How do I change my gender on my DL/ID card?
As of January 1, 2019, individuals may self-select a gender identity of male (M), female (F), or nonbinary (X) to appear on their DL/ID:
- Complete a new DL/ID application online.
- Gather the required documents to show DMV
- Visit a DMV office to complete the process.
What are the required proof documents to show DMV?
REAL ID acceptable documents and non REAL ID (federally non-compliant) for DL/ID cards.
